Role Objective

Accountable for the successful delivery of complex business and IT projects across the full lifecycle—from initial concept through to completion and closure. This includes ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with both business and technical requirements. The Project Manager will foster strong, collaborative relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including Board members, to drive engagement and alignment. Acting as the central point of coordination, they will proactively identify and resolve issues, manage risks using industry best practices, and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Takes full responsibility for the planning, analysis, definition, approach (agile, waterfall etc), facilitation and satisfactory completion of large-scale and complex projects which have broad business impact and firm deadlines.
  • Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project.
  • Ensures that realistic project plans are maintained and ensures regular and accurate communication to stakeholders.
  • Manages the change control procedure and ensures that project deliverables are completed within agreed cost, timescale and resource budgets, and are signed off.
  • Provides effective leadership to a diverse project team, and takes appropriate action through matrix management where team performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
  • Guide, influence and convince a diverse team and varied range of stakeholders and facilitates collaboration between stakeholders who share common objectives.
  • Implements stakeholder engagement/ communications plans, including, for example; handling of complaints; problems and issues; managing resolutions; corrective actions and lessons learned; collection and dissemination of relevant information.
  • Monitors and reports progress on business readiness targets, business engagement activity, training design and deployment activities, key operational metrics and return to productivity measures.
  • Defines the series and sequence of activities to bring stakeholders to the required level of commitment, prior to going live.
  • Monitors and maintains all required financial records for compliance and audit to all agreed requirements.
  • Manages financial planning and budgeting.
  • Provides coaching, direction, support and guidance as necessary, in line with individuals’ skills and abilities. Monitors progress against agreed quality and performance criteria. Acts to facilitate effective working relationships between project team members where appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Recognised project management certification (e.g. PRINCE2, AgilePM, PMP) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks and tools such as Scrum and Kanban.

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in successfully managing the delivery of large-scale, complex business and IT projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence diverse stakeholder groups, including Board-level executives.
  • Strong working knowledge of project management methodologies and tools (e.g. PRINCE2, Agile).

Desirable

  • Experience in establishing and running an effective Project Management Office (PMO).
