David Strachan

Since leaving university with a degree in accountancy, I have worked in financial services for more than 25 years, spending my entire career with one firm, who in 2024 became one of the founders of Shackleton. I entered the industry, as a graduate trainee, and relatively quickly became authorised to provide advice, which at that time, was most likely a reflection of the lack of regulation, than my own capabilities. Fortunately however, professionalism, legislation and oversight have all improved, and the sector and our clients are better off for it.

Given my years of experience, I have assisted clients at all stages of the life cycle and across a range of areas, with most of my time now devoted to retirement planning and inheritance tax mitigation. I firmly believe, the values which I live my life by – integrity, honesty and transparency – have been fundamental to the longevity of my career in financial services. They have provided the foundation to fostering enduring client relationships, where my client’s trust me implicitly, which is a privileged position to be in.

Beyond work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. My own children, are largely independent now, however our dog still makes me feel needed. Sport also takes up my time, albeit now it is more watching, than playing.
